Eugene B. Chang, MD
Dr. Chang graduated with honors from John Hopkins University in 1972 before receiving his MD degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1976. He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago before joining the faculty in 1982. He is currently the Martin Boyer Professor of Medicine and Director of the Digestive Diseases Research Core Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The Course Director for Organ Physiology and Endocrinology since 1998, Dr. Chang is the recipient of numerous awards for his contribution to medical education including the Hilger Perry Jenkins Award for Academic Excellence and Clinical Teaching and the Lawrence Wood Teaching Award. He has been the director of two NIH training grants since 1998. In 2001, he was inducted into the University of Chicago Alpha Omega Medical Honor Society in recognition of his outstanding teaching and scholarship. Dr. Chang has served as Co-Director of the NIH-sponsored Pritzker School of Medicine’s Summer Research Program since 1993. Between 60–70% of the first year medical students participate in the eleven week program each year. A stalwart supporter of medical student research, Dr. Chang has mentored at least one student in the program since its inception. In addition, Dr. Chang has served on both the Admissions Committee and Pre-Clinical Curriculum Review committees at the Pritzker School of Medicine.
