Philip C. Hoffman, MD
An honors graduate from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Hoffman received his MD from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 1972 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with AOA honors. He did his residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hoffman then spent two years working at the Center for Disease Control as an EIS officer before coming to the University of Chicago for fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology. He joined our faculty in 1980 and is currently Co-Director of the Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Clinic at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
For the past twenty-six years, Dr. Hoffman has served as director of the Hematology/Oncology section of the Clinical Pathophysiology and Therapeutics course. Known for his outstanding teaching, the Pritzker School of Medicine graduating classes have honored him in their composite class photo fourteen times. The internal medicine graduating residents have honored him five times. In addition to his teaching and mentoring, Dr. Hoffman has played an instrumental role in the development of the Pritzker School of Medicine’s curriculum. He served as Chairman of the Pritzker School of Medicine Curriculum Committee for six years and has participated on countless education committees including the Alpha Omega Alpha Advisory Committee, Ambulatory Care Education Committee and Committee on Residency Training, to name just a few. A national expert in cancers of the lung, breast and esophagus, Dr. Hoffman lectures across the country and abroad on many topics in his areas of expertise.
