Numerous Pritzker students and residents were recognized at this year’s American College of Physicians–Illinois Chapter Scientific Meeting. The meeting took place in early November on the University’s campus. Third-year student Justin Newman received first place for his research poster “Psychological Sequellae of Hand Injuries: the Impact of PTSD and Depression on Functional Status.” Susanne Vanderbilt, also a third-year student, won second place for her poster entitled “A Qualitative Study of Physicians’ Engagement in Reducing Health Care Disparities.” Justin Newman also was awarded third place for “Bias Towards Publishing Positive Results in Orthopedic Surgery: A Patient Safety Issue.” Third-year student Jeff Eisen took second place in the student vignette competition.

University of Chicago residents also gave a fine showing at the meeting. In the vignette competition, Dr. Stan Crittenden, a third-year resident in Internal Medicine, won third place. Dr. Megan Hisingh-Sheets won third place in the research competition for her poster describing “Predictors of BMI in Two Chicago African-American Communities,” while Dr. Paul Ricketts was awarded first place in the clinical competition for his poster of “Collateral Damage: Acute Abdomen in a Patient with an Inferior Vena Cava Anomaly.” Megan and Paul are first and second-year residents, respectively, in Internal Medicine.
