The 2019 Match

On Friday, March 15, medical students around the country opened their Match envelopes to find out where they would spend the next phase of their career: residency. Pritzker students gathered in Ida Noyes Hall for a celebratory ceremony, and at 11:01 am CDT, the Max Palevsky Cinema filled with the sounds of envelopes being ripped open—followed by a chorus of cheers. The most popular categorical and advanced specialties chosen this year by our 81 matching students were internal medicine (17), pediatrics and psychiatry (9 each), emergency medicine (8), family medicine (7), and obstetrics-gynecology (6). All other specialties had one matched student.

Pritzker students will be traveling to all reaches of the country for their residency training. The hospitals accepting the most Pritzker recruits to their categorical and advanced programs were the University of Chicago Medicine (18), the Northwestern system and the University of California system (8 each), the Harvard system (6), and Columbia University, the University of Minnesota, the University of Washington, and Yale University (3 each). All other health systems/universities had one or two matched students.

Congrats, Class of 2019!
