Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators

The Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators was founded in 2006 by Deans James Madara and Holly J. Humphrey to support and promote research, innovation, and scholarship in medical education at the University of Chicago. The Academy is led by H. Barrett Fromme, MD, MHPE, Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Faculty Development in Medical Education.

In addition to hosting Medical Education Day, the Academy sponsors faculty development workshops throughout the year and funds scholarship in medical education.

Core Mission

The core missions of the Academy are:

  • Promote excellence in teaching across the continuum of medical education.
  • Support scholarship among medical educators.
  • Enhance the Pritzker curriculum by supportingrecognizing and rewarding its outstanding teachers.
  • Build community among medical educators in the Pritzker School of Medicine.
  • Facilitate the creation of an environment that enhances the status of medical educators at the University of Chicago.

Medical Education Day 2024

Annually, the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators supports Medical Education Day, an extensive event that showcases advancements and studies in medical education at the University of Chicago. The event commences with a keynote speech delivered by a prominent figure in the field of medical education. Subsequently, the afternoon features a poster session and noteworthy plenary poster presentations. The culmination of the day involves an awards ceremony dedicated to recognizing the latest inductees to the Academy.
