2006 Medical Education Research Awards Granted

June 1, 2006 – The Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators, the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and the University of Chicago Hospitals recently announced the 2006 recipients of the Medical Education Research Awards.

A new program launched this year, the Medical Education Research Awards provides research funding for medical student education research and resident/fellow education research. These awards are part of an ongoing series of initiatives to foster research, innovation and scholarship in medical education and topromote and sustain a strong culture of teaching in the Biological Sciences Division.

The newly formed Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators reviews and oversees all proposals relating to medical student education. The GMEC Executive Committee reviews and oversees all Resident/Fellow Education proposals. Awardees also receive matching funds from their respective departments in the Biological Sciences Division.

Prior to the 2006 awards, Dr. Javad Hekmatpanah, Professor of Neurosurgery, receivedan award for his work entitled, "Web-based curriculum in neurosurgery for students and residents."

Awardees will be presenting a poster presentation of their medical education research project at next year's Medical Education Day, which will be held on April 13, 2007.
