The mission of the Bridgeport Free Clinic (BFC) is to make healthcare more accessible for residents of the Bridgeport and wider Chicago communities, with a particular focus on Asian and Asian-American populations. To this end, we provide free medical care regardless of insurance or immigration status. We also strive to raise awareness about commonly underdiagnosed chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and Hepatitis B. In addition, we aim to connect patients to healthcare resources, such as affordable insurance plans or Federally Qualified Health Centers, which provide comprehensive and long-term primary care. Finally, in order to better serve our diverse patient population, we make Cantonese and Mandarin in-person interpreting services available to all clinic patients; other languages are available virtually.

Testimonials

"Since Bridgeport Free Clinic is so new, all volunteers have had a chance to shape the way BFC provides care to the Chinese immigrants in Bridgeport. Personally, as a child of immigrants, I appreciate the opportunity to give back to other immigrants and help navigate them through barriers to receiving affordable healthcare." - Phil Hsu, MSTP

"During our pre-clinical years of medical school-- when we must spend the vast majority of our time in lectures and studying-- the free clinics provide a humbling and revitalizing reminder of why we chose to pursue a career in medicine. That is, to provide compassionate care to others." - Lucy Xu, MS3
