Ali Abbasi, MS3 gave an oral presentation on his work entitled “Learning Algorithm to Identify Drugs Involved in Drug Overdose Deaths from Literal Text on Death Certificates” at the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists in West Palm Beach, FL this past June. This work was related to S&D research performed under the guidance of Mai Pho, MD.
Olufemi Adams, MS4 gave an oral presentation on his work entitled “One-Year Unplanned Reoperation Rates: A Useful Quality Metric in Orthopaedic Surgery?” at the Western Orthopaedic Association - 82nd Annual in Snowmass, CO this August. This work was related to S&D research, was co-authored by Sebastian Cruz, MS3, and was performed under the guidance of Michael Lee, MD.
Stephanie Bi, MS2 received a Graduate Student Leadership Recognition Award in June from the UChicago Graduate Council for her “dedication and commitment to bettering graduate student life at UChicago this year.”
CJ Christian, MS2 was selected to be a Benjamin McAllister Summer Scholar and will be conducting SRP research under the guidance of Peter O’Donnell, MD’03, later this year.
Mark Chee, MS4 published a paper in JAMA Internal Medicine this April. The paper was entitled “Generic substitution rates of oral contraceptives and associated out-of-pocket cost savings between January 2010 and December 2014”. This paper was co-authored by Vineet Arora, MD, MAPP’03, among others. This work was related to SRP research.
David Cook, MS2 received University of Chicago Medicine’s Choosing Wisely Challenge Award, which highlights ideas and initiatives meant to reduce preventable harm or deliver value in our healthcare system. His work is entitled “Reducing Excessive Nighttime Blood Pressure Monitoring in Hospitalized Children to Improve Pediatric Patient Experience”. This work is related to SRP research and was performed under the guidance of Vineet Arora, MD, MAPP’03. David also gave two poster presentations on his work entitled "Benchmarking opioid prescription trends after lower extremity orthopedic procedures" and "Narcotic use after common upper extremity orthopedic procedures" at UChicago Medicine Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitative Medicine Research Symposium this May. This work was co-authored by Sam Kaskovich, MS2 and performed under the guidance of Michael Lee, MD and Lewis Shi, MD.
Ayesha Dholakia, MS3 won the Student Translational Best Poster Prize at the Pediatrics Research Day Poster Symposium on her work entitled “Determining the Needs of Survivors of Pediatric Critical Illness,” performed under the guidance of Neethi Pinto, MD, MS.
Claire Dugan, MS4 gave a poster presentation on her work entitled “Risks and Rewards of Primary Care Transformation: Case Studies of Early Adopters” at the AMA Accelerating Medical Education Student & Resident-Led Conference in Hersey, PA this August. This work was related to SRP and S&D research performed under the guidance of Elbert Huang, MD.
Phillip Hsu, ISTP was awarded a Community Engagement Grant in June from the Office of the Provost for his work entitled "A Community-Based Approach to Address Disparities in Colorectal Cancer and Chronic Hepatitis B in Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders". This work was co-authored by Allen Zhu, ISTP; Anthony Hung, ISTP; Mark Chee, MS4; Annie Zhang, MS2; Stephanie Bi, MS2; and Jill Baranowski, MS2. The grant provides $3,730 of funding for one year to screen for colorectal cancer and hepatitis B in Asian American community health workers and community members in Chinatown and Bridgeport.
Tyrone Johnson, MS3 received the Kaiser Permanente Oliver Goldsmith Scholarship in May for the Promotion and Advancement of Culturally Responsive Care.
Suellen Li, MS4 gave a poster presentation on her worked entitled “Nonconvulsive Status Epilepticus (NCSE) Presenting as Dissociative Fugue” at the 4th Neurological Disorders Summit in Los Angeles, CA this past July. This work was performed under the guidance of John Pula, MD.
Julia Naman, MS3 received an Honorable Mention of the Student Translational Best Poster Prize at the Pediatrics Research Day Poster Symposium on her work entitled “A Mixed-Methods Study of Student Perspectives on Asthma Management in Schools: Experiences, Facilitators, and Barriers” under the guidance of Anna Volerman Beaser, MD.
Robert Nolan, MS3 gave an oral and poster project on his work entitled “A Needs Analysis to Inform an Awake Surgery Communication Curriculum: The Resident Perspective” at The Association for Surgical Education- Annual Meeting in Austin, TX this past May. This work was related to SRP and S&D research was co-authored by Claire Smith, MD’18, and performed under the guidance of Nancy Schindler, MD.
Anastasia Pozdnyakova, MS3 gave a poster presentation on her work entitled “Impact of Medical Scribes on Quality of Electronic Health Record Documentation in Academic Primary Care” at the AAMC 2018 Integrating Quality Conference in Arlington, VA this past June. This work was related to SRP research performed under the guidance of Wei Wei Lee, MD.
Frank Qian, MS4 published a first-author paper entitled "Height and body mass index as modifiers of breast cancer risk in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers: A Mendelian randomization study" in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute this August. This research was done in collaboration with The Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 (CIMBA) under the guidance of Deheng Huo, MD.
Noah Simon, MS3 gave a presentation on his work entitled "The Effect of Pharmacological Pupil Dilation On Calculation of IOL Power Using Fourth-Generation Formulas" at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Conference this past April. This work was related to SPR and S&D research under the guidance of Kamran Riaz, MD.
