MS4 Lottery Introduction
Each year rising fourth year students participate in a lottery which enables students to select and rank course choices for the upcoming academic year. The MS4 Lottery will run in two enrollment phases. In Phase One, required courses, and senior selectives are assigned according to a match of ranked preferences with available courses. Phase Two provides students a second opportunity to select Basic Science and Sub-I courses that may not have been received in Phase I. Additionally, students will select electives to construct their senior year schedule for the period of May 2022 through May 2023.
To get started, visit the Lottery web site at: http://lottery.bsd.uchicago.edu, beginning Tuesday, March 8th.
Opens - Tuesday, March 8 Closes - Wednesday, March 16 at 11:59 PM• At the end of Phase One, results are posted on the Lottery website.
• During the interval between Phase One and Phase Two, students have the opportunity to trade selectives on a one for one basis or to drop a selective altogether.
• All swaps must be reported by both students via email to Michael McGinty(mmcginty@bsd.uchicago.edu) no later than Monday, March 21st at noon.
• All unfilled electives and basic science selectives are available in Phase Two.
Phase One assigns the courses needed to fulfill the following fourth year requirements:
- Inpatient/Sub-I Selective - 150 units total
- Basic Science Selective - 150 units total
- Emergency Medicine - rank all 4-week blocks

Phase One Swap/Drop Period
Friday, March 18, 2022 - Monday, March 21, 2022 at Noon
- At the end of Phase One, results are posted on the Lottery website.
- During the interval between Phase One and Phase Two, students have the opportunity to trade selectives on a one for one basis or to drop a selective altogether.
- All swaps must be reported by both students via email to Michael McGinty(mmcginty@bsd.uchicago.edu) no later than Monday, March 21st at noon.
- All unfilled electives and basic science selectives are available in Phase Two.
Opens - Tuesday, March 22, 2022 Closes - Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:59 PM
- During Phase Two, students will select and rank electives and any remaining selectives. The process of Phase Two is identical to Phase One.
Phase Two Results Posted and Swap/Drop Period begins
Thursday, March 31, 2022 - Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:59am
- At the end of Phase Two, results are posted on the Lottery website.
- Prior to releasing senior schedules to departments, students are provided a final opportunity to Swap/Drop courses on a one-for-one basis or to drop a course altogether.
- All swaps must be reported by both students via email to Michael McGinty(mmcginty@bsd.uchicago.edu) no later than Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:59am
- No simple adds allowed during this period.
Final Lottery Results Posted – Tuesday, April 5, 2022 by 5pm
- Results are posted on the Lottery website after departmental review.

Inpatient/Sub-I:A total of 150 credits of Inpatient/Sub-I is a senior requirement. If in Phase One you are not assigned an Inpatient Selective, you will be given second opportunity to select choices during Phase Two of the Lottery for this assignment.
Emergency Medicine: Clerkship is a 150 credit senior requirement.
Basic Science: A total of 150 credits of selectives in the Scientific Basis of Medical Practice is a senior requirement. If in Phase One you are not assigned a basic science course, you will be given second opportunity to select choices during Phase Two of the Lottery for this assignment.
We will announce once changes to your schedule can be made online. Detailed instructions will be posted on Pritzker's website and emailed to MS4 students. All course additions will be placed on your schedule provided there is room in the course you are trying to add. The system will not allow you to add courses that met in the past or that are currently in progress. If you are interested in a course, please finalize your enrollment prior to the published start of the course.
A summary of your schedule and an overall tally of senior year units will also appear on my.uchicago.edu.
