2021 Application Cycle

The Admissions Committee at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine recognizes and understands how the COVID-19 pandemic and anti-Black racism and violence have influenced and will continue to influence the 2020-2021 medical school application cycle. Our commitment to maintaining an equitable admissions process that ensures the training of a diverse future physician workforce poised to meet the needs of our communities is longstanding and unwavering.

In particular, we understand that medical school applicants have endured extreme challenges related to preparing for an MCAT that is different from prior years, as well as challenges related to the administration of this test. We recognize the extreme concern and anxiety around anticipating the repercussions of delayed test dates and uncertainty around the exam.

Our Admissions team has always made the thoughtful and holistic review of applications in their entirety a top priority, and we will take into account the structural, emotional, and physical toll of recent events as we make decisions this cycle. To that end, we will significantly reduce the impact of the MCAT in our review process for the approaching cycle. We will place even greater emphasis on those applicant characteristics that will predict success within our curriculum and align with our mission, which is to inspire diverse students of exceptional promise to become leaders and innovators in science and medicine for the betterment of humanity.

In response to the delays in rescheduling MCAT dates and application processing, and acknowledging that applicants may need additional time to complete their applications, we have made the following changes to our application cycle timeline:

  • Remote interview invitation offers will be delayed by one month
  • The start of interview season will be delayed by one month
  • Admissions committee meetings will be delayed by approximately one month
  • No acceptance decisions will be made until at least one month after the scores from the September 28 MCAT administration are released

Applicants may also wish to review our previously released COVID-19 admissions information.

The Pritzker School of Medicine is resolute in our commitment to looking deeply within an application to find talented students who will join us in our mission to diversify the physician workforce, fight against structural racism within and outside of medicine, serve humanity, and who will lead, innovate, and alleviate suffering.

We welcome students interested in applying to the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine to contact us at pritzkeradmissions@bsd.uchicago.edu.
