Clinic Details

Clinic Time: Fridays, 5:30-8:30pm
Clinic Address: 2645 W Peterson Ave, Chicago IL 60659 (Little India / Arcadia Terrace Neighborhood)
Patient Population: South Asian immigrant population, Hindi and Urdu speaking patients. Many patients do not speak/are not fully comfortable in English–we try to have professional interpretation, but if not, many students as well as the IAMACF Receptionist/Pharmacist (Puja) can interpret!

EMR - Practice Fusion

The clinic uses PracticeFusion to document all patient encounters. If it’s your first time volunteering, let us know and we can make sure to make an account for you. Please let us know if you would like a tutorial on this software!

Patient Labs/Medication

We have a list of labs and medications that we can offer in-house for the patient (no cost to them). This list is updated regularly and posted in the back workroom for your reference! **any other labs or medications can be written out for the patient to get at another facility!

Clinic Workflow

  1. Medical students will take the patient's history and vitals, and will perform relevant physical exams they are trained in, and then present patients to you! (Note: most volunteers are pre-clinical students who are learning how to take histories, present patients, etc. Feedback on these clinical skills is appreciated!)
  2. Students and attending will return to the patient to collect any further history, and/or perform any additional physical exams, and to discuss plans, prescriptions, lab orders, etc. Students will then document the encounter in EMR.
  3. Meanwhile, student coordinators will present lab results from patients from, relevant medical history, and chief complaints from the previous week's clinic.
  4. After discussing plans/recommendations with you, students will call the patients with their results and the plan of action, and record this encounter in the EMR. You will need to sign off on all notes and telephone encounters (ideally at the end of clinic, but can be done at your convenience).
