With artificial intelligence rapidly transforming medical education, the Pritzker School of Medicine is introducing the ASCEnD initiative (AI Strategy for Curriculum and Educator Development), dedicated to preparing our faculty and students for the future of medical education.
As a follow-up to our 2025 Medical Education Day on AI in Medical Education, Dr. David Beiser, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Course Director for Physiology, will lead ASCEnD as Chair of the AI in Medical Education Task Force. In this pivotal role, Dr. Beiser will spearhead efforts to thoughtfully integrate AI throughout our educational programs, collaborating closely with both educators and students to maximize the impact of this powerful technology.
ASCEnD’s mission is to embed ethical and future-ready AI practices in our curriculum and operations. Through strategic planning, faculty development workshops with our FAME program, and hands-on resource creation—including a focus on enterprise tools like Phoenix AI—Dr. Beiser will support educators in leveraging AI to enhance teaching and learning. Working with our Curriculum Education and Policy committee, ASCEnD will help shape Pritzker’s educational policies on responsible AI use, covering essential issues like academic integrity and data privacy to ensure our standards remain at the forefront of medical education. By engaging trainees and faculty in the process, the initiative aims to create meaningful, AI-driven innovations in medical education shaped by needs and experiences.
