Career Data

The University of Chicago MSTP has a long and distinguished history of training outstanding and highly impactful physician scientists. During its 50+ years of continuously funded existence, 346 students have graduated with PhD’s in diverse specialties, including those commonly seen in MD/PhD programs (e.g. Immunology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Cancer Biology) as well as those that speak to the flexibility of the UChicago MSTP and the expertise of faculty (e.g. Molecular Engineering, Ecology and Evolution, Public Policy, Economics, Public Health Sciences).

Of graduates who have completed residency and are still active in their careers (n=221), 77% are in research-intensive or research-related positions, including 144 current academic appointments. Among these are 4 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 5 current or former MSTP directors, 34 leaders in academic medicine, 6 CFO/CEO or CMOs and one former university president (University of Redlands).
